Compton Camera is a novel type of gamma camera that makes use of an electronic collimation. It replaces the collimator of a standard gamma camera with an active detector. Compton Camera consists of two detectors:

  • Scatter Detector (Electron Detector)
  • Absorption Detector (Photon Detector)

The incoming photon Compton scatters in the first detector where the recoil electron's energy and its position are measured. The scattered photon undergoes a photoelectric absorption at the photon detector where it fully deposits it energy. Time coincidence technique is used to associate events in one detector with the other. The position and energy information from both detectors and the Compton kinematics restricts the location of the source to a cone surface, with the apex at the interaction point in the electron detector, opening angle q and axis along the track of the scattered photon.
